we are looking to expand our team! by joining gen z state of mind, you’ll be given the opportunity to expand your professional experience and creative portfolio all while having a platform to share your work on. additionally, you’ll be connected with our network of staff members and our wonderful supporters, all of which make this journey possible.
all applications are reviewed on a rolling-basis, and we will contact you via email within 2-3 weeks of submitting. please note that the following listed roles are all currently volunteer-based opportunities designed to provide hands-on experience in their respective fields (psychology, writing, journalism, graphic design, art, marketing, communications). due to this, we are flexible with time commitments and will always respect or work around your schedule.
Staff Writer
gen z state of mind accepts written submissions from all over the world, but now’s your chance to become a reoccurring writer! by writing one article bi-weekly of any topic of your choosing (no really, any topic), you’ll have a spot saved under your name in our article/blog section. this is perfect for anyone looking for a space to continuously display their work for an audience, or for new writers looking for ways to develop their style and prose.
Podcast co-host
it’s no secret that we first started off as a podcast before expanding into the digital archive that we are today. we would like to continue our podcasting sessions with a larger variety of perspectives, stories, and voices. if you love telling stories or presenting your opinions, this is the role for you! by making one episode bi-weekly (around 15 to 40 minutes), with the opportunity to find guests and interview them yourself, you’ll be able to connect with our audience via conversation. you will also be able to host and collaborate on podcast episodes together with the founder and current host, fiona wu. if you would like to try out for this role, please include a 30 second video (yapping about any topic of your choice)
Researcher
Content creation (instagram, tiktok), web development
if you’re a naturally curious person, an individual who’s interested in developing their research skills, or someone who would rather work behind the scenes, this position is perfectly curated for you. whether it’s research for an article for one of our staff writers or more in depth investigation for a topic covered on our podcast, you will have the opportunity to surf the web, apply what you’ve learned in books (or documentaries or movies), and interview the people around you. there is not just one proper way to research, and we are open to any and all methods! you will also be given the opportunity to conduct research on any topic of your choosing (for our writers and podcast hosts to read about). you will be credited on every blog, post, and episode that your research has contributed to.
graphic designers, editors, artists, truly anyone in the creative sphere (or anyone interested in revamping certain parts of the website/participating in maintenance!) this is your playground to experiment with any kind of style you would like while expanding gen z state of mind’s brand identity and content organization. here, you will have tons of creative freedom as we embrace all kinds of styles. think of this as a way to expand your portfolio while helping us define our brand further and experiment with various formats, all while have a platform to share your amazing work.
